A Pledge to the Seasons
I hereby pledge my allegiance
To the cycles and seasons.
No longer will I screen the sun,
Calm the rain,
Or clear the snow.
Why do we hide from the light,
And sleep through the night?
I hereby announce the regents
Of the land and regions.
For the rich harness nature’s golden gun,
Soak in the grain’s champagne,
And play in the white powder glow.
Name the season you will embrace,
Accept it for all its chaos and grace.
I hereby declare the credence
To end all the grievance.
Listen to the whispers of the wind,
Dance in the sounding thunder,
And chase the flashing lightning.
Experience earth as it is alive and breathing,
Lest it fade like a rainbow leaving.
And as is the case with all of the living,
For we, too, must ride our weather
That makes diamonds through pressure.
